Standard of Care examines the treatment of women’s bodies across histories of medicine, healing, and care. Drawing on the history of women healers and my own experience of illness, the works unfold across two sides—one rooted in the present, the other in the past—exploring how the past is enmeshed in the present. The series considers how women’s bodies have been surveilled, managed, and extracted from, asking who defines care, whose knowledge is valued, and who gets to tell the stories of women’s bodies.
